The Colorful World of Flying, Make Up and Art.
When I was in grade school, one of my favorite ways to color was using pastels. The way it glides on paper and the vivid colors always made me happy. Maybe at that young age, I couldn’t see it, but I think the bold colors were an expression of how I want to live life. Live boldly. Live life to the fullest. With no regrets.
Fast forward (as in FAAAST FORWARD) to my years in training. I headed the Personality Development division where I came across Kirby. He was one of the cabin crew I trained and found out later on that he was studying make up artistry. The next thing I knew, he was already an established personality in his field! What started out as a hobby turned into a full professional life aside from flying. It was inspiring to look at his posts and what he has accomplished. Of course all those poses, gorgeous gowns and wonderful make up made me giddy (yes…fifty year old me…giddy). Colors, colors, colors. I just had to reach out to him as I started my adventure into blogging because one way or the other, I wanted to share the burst of colors with others.
A World of Colors: Glitz and Glam
What I like about his work is that when I see it, the colors and the form lift my spirits.
And I am transported to a different world — a world where I can wear elegant gowns, glamorous make up and bask in the glitz and glam ambience. In my life, the few times I was able to wear a gown were weddings. I was lucky that I would also host for formal events like our company Star Awards years ago. But sadly, that’s it. And so to look and gush and dream were part of the magic that Kirby and his friends would weave around the model and those frustrated but inspired onlookers like me!
Take a Few Steps and See A Different Future
I asked him what made him venture into hair and make up artistry and he said that during his days off, he would paint in canvas to de-stress.
And one time, he posted it online and a friend told him “why not use faces as your canvas?”
And when he thought about it, his mentor (a colleague of mine Arys Obeso) said something that made him go ahead and pursue his dream: “why not choose to walk and climb, unless you want to crawl for the rest of your life.”
Kirby says that “that was an eye-opener to me that time. What Sir Arys said was true! If I did not follow my passion and take a risk, I will not be where I am today, doing what I am passionate about, and getting recognized for my art.”

Beauty is Universal
He is really passionate about what he does and his travels only strengthen his resolve to explore more, create beautiful canvases on real people. Kirby says, “I’ve been to hundreds of places, making me understand what global beauty is. With my travels, I have come face to face with different women around the globe– modern, strong, sensitive, confident. As diverse as they are, they are are keen to connect with their deepest, most authentic selves to feel strong and empowered.”

We Are All Artists Tapping into our Inner Selves
Listening to him, I realize that writing is an art form too, because it is an expression of your take on life, and you want to create and share.
So I told him about my wish to create a blog, and this time, the student became the mentor. He said, “Just start it. Because if you don’t, it will just stay in your imagination forever. Just take it one step at a time.”
And who am I to question someone who, through sheer grit and imagination, was able to successfully create?
Art in all forms, is an extension of ourselves. Even if I’m not artistic in the same level as Kirby, I happily sketch in my notebook, color (yeah paint by number right now haha) using acrylic, and love to put make up. It is the same as my writing. My writing takes me to a different place, and it is wonderful for the soul. I forget my worries, I become that young self, proudly and happily creating something with bright colors on paper. At the end of all these, finding your artistic side, no matter what the shape or form, will make you get to know facets to your self which you may not even know about. And what a wonderful discovery that would be, don’t you think? So go ahead and paint, sketch, color, write. A whole new world awaits!
P.S. Kirby, Kars, Zandra, Muriel, Nico and Kim are all PAL Cabin Crew! #ProudlyPAL
Most of them were in my basic, upgrading and/or recurrent classes 🙂

muchas gracias. i translated what you wrote. writing is like communicating with your inner self. our thoughts have different sources: experiences, fears, wishes, accomplishments, goals, interactions. we are all unique and have different stories to write. i’m glad you found my writing intriguing enough to read. i hope you enjoy the other writings too.
Rica
thanks a lot! hope you read the rest.

Congratulations, Ms. Rica! Painting through writing, art in words!
Rica
Thanks Syd! I find that we need to express ourselves in different forms and we can call it art. Stay safe and hope you keep reading the posts and share too.
